Special Olympics World Games 2023

The 2023 Special Olympics World Games took place in Berlin from 17 to 25 June, bringing together approximately 6,500 competitors from 176 delegations across 26 sports. The Games are dedicated to athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Held in Germany for the first time, the event opened with a spectacular ceremony at Berlin's Olympic Stadium, attended by more than 50,000 people. Over the following days, athletes competed in sports ranging from athletics and swimming to basketball and gymnastics.

Beyond the competitions and medals, the Games aim to promote inclusion, challenge stereotypes and create greater opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. They also provide an international stage for sporting achievements that too often receive little attention in mainstream media.
