Documenting a Protest in Kyiv
While photographing in Kyiv, I came across a demonstration calling for the release of the Azovstal defenders. People held signs and a constant stream of cars passed by, honking in support, creating a powerful scene in the heart of the city. After documenting the protest, I continued to the Ukrainian Motherland Monument and the surrounding memorial complex.
My First Hours in Wartime Kyiv
After several hours on a train, I finally arrived in Kyiv on a cold, snowy February day. The city, like much of Ukraine, is marked by the ongoing war with Russia and the effects of the conflict are visible everywhere. While walking through Maidan Square, I came across a powerful demonstration calling for the return of missing and captive Ukrainian soldiers. Hundreds of small flags and photographs lined the square, honoring those who have died in the war. Later, I visited St. Michael's Cathedral, where tanks are on display, a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
